Free Love

More than healthcare or education, I despise love being made into a commodity, which is why I've always put out for free.

This is for my HoneyLoveFire, who never tries to buy my affection.

Rise and Shine in 2012

Leaving up a blog post about Christmas Lights for weeks after the holiday is like not taking your tree down until February ~ tacky. Sorry about that folks, it's just that the first few weeks of 2012 whizzed by and are now mostly a blur. The only events I can recall clearly are a New Year's Eve party with lots of music and dancing (good times), mopping floors at midnight (yay, new job), twelve straight hours of vomiting (torture), and a few hours here and there with my grandson (life's reward). Whatever else happened will, hopefully, make for fond memories in the years to come.

Now that the fog is lifting, I'm feeling pretty optimistic about the coming Year of the Dragon, which people are telling me is supposed to bring luck and prosperity. With so many of us working twice as hard now, for half as much, perhaps we've gained the strength and resolve to make use of such good fortune. A Dragon Year sounds like just the thing we need to sustain the momentum of the movement toward economic fairness and environmental conservation.

It also feels like a good time to excel personally. My plan is to try to stop grumbling about my lot and take on the challenges that arise daily. Making it out to Burning Man again would be a nice bonus.

Bigger, Brighter, Better

Some strange urge had me driving around photographing more holiday lights. I tried getting a better shot of our picturesque village center, but still haven't hit the right vantage point. All along Main St., and down some side streets too, trees are dressed in lights, and from the lamp posts hang snow flakes, wreathes and Christmas trees.

This house displays a true dedication to lighting up. Pretty impressive.

Here's a doozy. If you were to tell me you blew up your holiday decorations, this is not what I would imagine.

This house has a refined look to it. Simple. Elegant. Everyone should have a nice home like this, with a garage.

But if you're struggling for funds, you can always get a room at the Holiday Lights Inn.

Actually the break with conventional lighting styles is refreshing. Here are a few more pictures of local beacons.
